Paul Banfield, University Archivist

Paul Banfield

Paul Banfield was appointed Queen's University Archivist on 1 January 2006. He obtained a B.A. (Honours) in History from the University of Alberta, and an M.A. in History from Queen's. Following four years as the archivist for the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph (Hotel Dieu Sisters), he joined Queen's University Archives in the position of Assistant Archivist (Records). In 1994, he was promoted to Associate University Archivist, a post he held until February 2004.

In 2001, Mr. Banfield was the recipient of the Alexander Fraser Award, presented by the Archives Association of Ontario, honouring "individuals who have contributed in a significant way to the advancement of the archival community in Ontario". He has been actively involved in a variety of University, community and professional activities and is former president of the Archives Association of Ontario.

 

Gillian Barlow, University Records Manager

Gillian Barlow

Gillian Barlow has been working as University Records Archivist at Queen’s University since 1998.

Gillian obtained her undergraduate degree at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies at Dalhousie University in 1992. She has worked in libraries and archives at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Technical University of Nova Scotia and at University of King’s College. Prior to coming to Queen’s she was working as a departmental Records Analyst in the Nova Scotia Department of Education.

As part of the Queen’s University Archives staff she is responsible for the university records program ensuring the management of all university record throughout the life-cycle from creation to disposition, and the university’s archival records.

Deirdre Bryden, Archivist (University Records)

Deirdre Bryden

Deirdre Bryden is Archivist (University Records) at Queen's University Archives. She has a Master of Archival Studies from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology and Classical Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University. Prior to working at Queen's, she was employed as an archivist at the World Bank Group Archives in Washington, D.C. She has also worked as the archivist for the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph Archives in Kingston, and as a description archivist for the Council of Nova Scotia Archives in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Deirdre is currently serving as Secretary for the Archives Association of Ontario and is also actively involved in the Association of Canadian Archivists.

 

Jeremy Heil, Technical Services Archivist

Jeremy Heil

Jeremy Heil has been the Technical Services Archivist at Queen’s University Archives since 2001.He holds a Master of Archival Studies degree from the University of British Columbia and a B.A. (Honours) in History and Visual Arts from Brock University. Prior to working at Queen’s, he was employed as an archivist with the Chung Collection in Vancouver, and in the Private Records Section of the Provincial Archives of Alberta. He is former president of the Archives Association of Ontario, and has served on numerous committees over the years. He has taught workshops on electronic records, photographs and artworks in archives, and presented papers on various topics.

Jeremy is currently implementing strategies for the long-term preservation of electronic records in the archives.

 

Heather Home, Public Services Archivist

Heather Home

Heather Home has been the Public Services Archivist at Queen's Archives since September 2001. Prior to arriving at Queen's, she worked at the Provincial Archives of Alberta in the Private Records Division. Heather holds a Master of Archival Studies from the University of British Columbia and a B.A. (Honours) in Cultural Studies from Trent University.


Shan Jin, Records Analyst

Shan Jin

Graduated from Dalhousie University's MLIS program, Miss Jin has been worked in the Records Management field in both government and academic settings. Her main duties as a Records Analyst at Queen's University Archives include developing records retention schedules and providing advisory services on records management issues. Miss Jin has obtained AIIM's ERM Practitioner certificate. She is currently working towards becoming a Certified Records Manager.
