Stewart Renfrew, 1941-2025

We at Queen's University Archives were saddened to learn of the passing of former archivist, Stewart Renfrew. Stewart was a friendly face at the Archives for over 10 years. He obtained his BA from McMaster University, and his MA in Bibliography, Publishing and Textual Studies from the University of Leeds. He joined the Archives as a technician in 1988 after having earlier worked in the Documents, Civil Engineering, and Biology libraries since the early 1970s. He completed his National Archives Certificate in 1993 and rejoined Queen's Archives as Archivist (Technical Services), serving in this role until his retirement in 2000. He was instrumental in bringing Queen's Archives into the 21st century through his work on the first website, descriptions database, and early efforts towards digitization. He served on numerous committees in the profession both provincially and nationally, and published in Queen's Alumni Review, Historic Kingston, and elsewhere over his career.

Queen’s University Archives wishes to offer sincere condolences to Janet, Carmen, Mark, and the rest of his surviving family. Stewart will be missed.
